What Skills Does a Security Guard in Ontario Need?
The following core basic skills end up being very important for a security guard. Some of them might surprise you!
- Active Listening – Giving your full attention to what people are saying, understanding the important points of what is being said, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- Monitoring – Paying close attention to the environment around you, what is going on, and taking corrective action as necessary
- Speaking – Communicating clearly and effectively is a core part of your work as a security guard, strong command of the English language and others would be an asset
- Coordination – Being able to adjust your actions based on what others are doing
- Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to solve problems and choose the best actions
- Reading Comprehension – Ability to understand work related documents effectively
- Active Learning – Being able to absorb new information and integrate it into your problem solving and decision making
- Social Perceptiveness – Understanding why people do what they do
- Writing – Communicating well in writing and appropriately for the audience
